The OneZone Board of Directors are dedicated and active member volunteers, who serve as ambassadors for our 1,300 members and provide guidance and direction for the Chamber. Board Member Courtney Lloyd of STAR Financial Bank, Chair-Elect, has been active in the Chamber for over ten years. Her leadership roles have ebbed and flowed, but at the center has always been a desire to have an impact for her fellow members and the communities that OneZone serves.
Meet OneZone Board Member Courtney Lloyd
How did you initially become involved in OneZone?
I’ve been with STAR Financial for 11 years. When I first started out as a personal banker, they were very active in the Fishers Chamber (prior to the merge to OneZone) so I would attend events here and there. However, I enjoyed getting to meet new people and wanted to be more involved so I became a member ambassador, who helped new members onboard and define their membership goals. I loved answering new member questions and helping highlight events that might be of the most benefit for them. From that volunteer position, I moved to the board and have been there ever since. I love helping our members get as much impact out of the Chamber as possible and truly enjoy building long-lasting relationships with the other board members.
What are the benefits you see for your company as a member?
Ideally, visibility for my company, STAR Financial Bank, but that’s simply the icing on the cake. The true benefit is being a part of the impact OneZone makes for the community. Additionally, my personal favorite benefit is the relationships you build and insights you gain from different perspectives. I was always told by mentors to surround yourself with good people, both personally and professionally, and good things are bound to happen. I love the quote by Oprah Winfrey - “Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.”
You are a very busy professional with limited free time -- why did you choose to lend your leadership to the OneZone board?
Early in my career I tried to be in several networking groups, but I was spread thin. Wanting to spend as much quality time with my young sons as I could, I trimmed my volunteer activities to ensure I was spending that time efficiently and effectively. OneZone was one of the organizations that I knew I needed to stay committed to because of the wonderful things it does for the community and its members.
What are three things that people would be surprised to know about you?
Many people know I was a basketball player in college, but not everyone knows that I was inducted into the University of Toledo Hall of Fame for my time spent on the women’s basketball team. I still hold the season record for top 3 point goal percentage in school history.
As a child, I learned a song to remember all 50 states. I can still sing it at the drop of a hat, but it’s not pretty. Just because I can, doesn’t always mean I should!
I have been the top producing private banker at STAR Financial for the last five years.
