Prior to joining SYM in January of 2014, Popenfoose worked at the Chicago office of Analysis Group, an economic consulting and strategy firm. He also lectured courses in investment and portfolio management at Loyola University Chicago's Quinlan School of Business and contributed research to expert testimonies heard by congressional boards and in several of our nation's largest financial court cases.
Popenfoose holds a Bachelor of Science in Management and a Master of Science in Finance from Purdue University as well as a Master of Business Administration from Winthrop University. He is an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran and in 2014, earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, one of the most demanding credentials in the investment industry.
In his personal time, Popenfoose enjoys traveling in pursuit of a mountaineering goal to summit every “fourteener” in the continental United States. He has conquered twelve of the approximately 67 peaks. In the fall of 2015, Popenfoose traveled to Nepal to participate in humanitarian relief efforts near the base of Mt. Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world.
