INDIANAPOLIS – Veteran entrepreneur, venture capitalist and Eleven Fifty Academy co-founder and CEO, Scott A. Jones will be the featured speaker in an exclusive Sparks program on June 17 at the Scott Jones Mansion. The event is being held to celebrate the three-year anniversary of Sparks and to officially announce the partnership between Eleven Fifty Academy and Sparks.
Eleven Fifty Academy is Jones’s newest venture to help educate web and app developers with both technical skills and entrepreneurship. Eleven Fifty Academy is based at Jones’s mansion in Carmel, Ind., and offers courses in new and innovative software and web development. Students are immersed in intensive and challenging hands-on curriculum taught by proven industry experts, including Jones, in a classroom setting.
Jones is passionate about encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation at Eleven Fifty Academy as well as in practice in the marketplace, which has led to the partnership with Chris Reed and Sparks.
“The rocketing growth of Sparks proves they offer a uniquely innovative approach to networking.” said Jones, co-founder of Gracenote, ChaCha, and widely known for creating voice mail. “Eleven Fifty Academy’s partnership with Sparks adds a larger technology component to the Sparks brand that is already focused on connecting, educating and supporting entrepreneurs. In addition, our partnership will help a greater community be exposed to the opportunity Eleven Fifty Academy brings to the education and consulting space."
As a 25-year resident of the Indianapolis area who has 30 years of experience in the marketing and sales fields, Reed has experienced the universal routine of trading business cards as the primary activity at networking events.
“A card swap is meaningless between two people. Unless there is a purposeful effort, there is no relationship,” said Reed. “Connections are what build relationships and, therefore, business and community.”
That was where the idea for Sparks began. Sparks blends the opportunity for networking with the inspiration and motivation of a TED-like talk for a growing group of Indianapolis professionals every month. Sparks events are designed to create the environment for professionals in all industries and stages of their careers to meet, connect and form relationships that benefit their own personal and professional growth.
“It’s about connecting with people,” said Reed. “During the show, something happens for people personally, and people are more open and transparent than ever before. They walk away with real connections.”
At Sparks events, the purpose is to mingle, to be inspired and to share. A short period of mingling allows people to meet and trade business cards, but it is followed by a program of three speakers giving timed talks. Talk topics are generally not announced prior to the event.
Talks are not centered on the speaker’s job, business or what they can provide a customer. Instead they are about topics that can inspire people and “spark” their growth and development. They may be on a business lesson or an experience that changed the speaker’s perspective. No two Sparks talks are alike. Some are funny; some are heart-wrenching; and some are profound; but every Sparks talk stimulates conversation.
Through the sharing of a common experience, attendees can make real connections with other people. And those connections, according to Reed, become the basis of a strong community of contacts, associates and partners.
Sparks is a monthly event platform that delivers a common shared experience, creating the environment for real connections between real people. It is held on the second Wednesday of each month at Moon Dog Tavern, 4825 E. 96th St., beginning at 5 p.m. Registration is suggested as space is limited.
