Although he was raised as a classically trained violinist, the Austin Johnson most people know these days is a guitar and vocal coach at Midwest School of Voice and member of many local bands. When he is not busy helping everyone else sound great, Austin writes and records original material. He’ll be debuting some of these new works at the showcase.
Joy Caroline Mills
Carmel caught a glimpse of Joy Caroline Mills at last summer’s hit event Carmel Porchfest. Since then she’s spent her time in collegiate studies, including overseas study in London, England. London provided inspiration for her latest album Fever Dreams, released in March of 2015. Expect to hear songs from the album (and a few new ones) at the showcase.
Local songwriter Sara Kays may be young, but she’s ready to conquer the world with her powerful songwriting. She started writing and playing guitar at age 10, released her first EP at 13, and performed at Carmel Porchfest at 14. She’s since been working on songs for a new album, which she’ll bring with her to the showcase.
Indianapolis guitarist Nick Zyromski writes songs about life, death, and just about everything in between. He will be playing original songs from his recently completed second album Too Many Songs.
The Warehouse held its first singer-songwriter showcase on October 11, 2014. It was the first music event at the venue and brought a wealth of talent to try out the listening room. Local acts Zachary Melton (Rodeo Ruby Love, Snack Mountain and the Boys Who Lived), Julia Kahn, Ty & Isaac, and newcomers The New Us performed original material on the stage in front of a supportive and enthusiastic audience.
In a space dating back to the 1950s, The Warehouse is a converted machine shop turned listening room and art space. With state of the art stage and lighting equipment, a bar, and an art gallery, The Warehouse is a hip, edgy, fun place to enjoy all varieties of live performance as well as private events.
