The good news is that WorkOne Hamilton County has partnered with EmployIndy, Marion County’s workforce development board, to help Central Indiana businesses develop and hire the best skilled talent. The program, called Employ Up, focuses on the tech and healthcare industries, two of the fastest growing business sectors in Central Indiana.
Employ Up and WorkOne Hamilton County work closely with employers to understand their talent needs and hand-pick specially trained candidates to work for 6 to 8 weeks at no cost. This allows companies to evaluate the best, most qualified talent before making a hiring decision.
Talent who participate in the Employ Up program have completed an intensive Career Prep Boot Camp, a unique personal and professional skills training program that prepares them to succeed in their next career.
Employ Up is funded through an $8.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to invest in training for underemployed and long-term unemployed individuals. The program runs through October 2018 and is available to all Central Indiana businesses.
Hundreds of Central Indiana residents have participated in Employ Up with hundreds more being recruited to complete the program and find their next career.
According to one company that worked with Employ Up to hire tech talent, Employ Up is “a win, win for finding talent,” said Bloomerang CEO and co-founder Jay Love. “Employ Up helps to place talent, has available money to subsidize training – and we get the benefit of a new employee.
“They serve as an adjunct recruiter for you,” Love added, which is of particular interest for small, growing companies that may not have dedicated resources for talent recruitment.
