“Today is a historic day for the City of Fishers. Chief Kehl’s leadership has paved the way for the Fishers Police Department’s next chapter and I am proud to appoint Chief Thompson to carry on the values of our extraordinary police department,” said Mayor Scott Fadness. “Chief Thompson brings years of experience and dedication to the role, and I have no doubt he will serve this community to the best of his ability.”
Thompson has been with the Fishers Police Department since 1991. In 1994, Thompson was promoted to Patrol Sergeant, and was promoted to Patrol Commander in 1999. Four years later, Thompson was selected as the agencies’ Assistant Chief of Police. Many residents remember Chief Thompson from his days in the classroom as a local D.A.R.E. officer.
“I am humbled to accept this promotion and thank Chief Kehl for his many years of leadership,” said Chief Thompson. "The Fishers Police Department is one of the finest agencies in the state of Indiana, and I look forward to furthering the culture of excellence and innovation for years to come.”
Thompson holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University (Bloomington) and a Master’s Degree in Administration of Justice from the University of Phoenix. He is a graduate of the 202nd Class of the FBI National Academy. He attended the FBI LEEDS (Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar) course in 2005, and served as the FBI National Academy Associates President for the Indiana Chapter in 2014. Thompson is also a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership Academy.
Thompson has been a Fishers resident since 1991. He has two children, both graduates of Hamilton Southeastern High School and currently in college.
