The Carmel Green Initiative will be on hand to provide s’mores and hot chocolate (so bring your reusable mugs) at Civic Square and the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana will be partnering with the City to have binoculars available for star gazing and making glow in the dark necklaces. Both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts (and their families) are invited to participate, as well as any boys or girls who are interested in joining the Scouts. This is an exciting partnership which will raise more awareness around this event and will involve the youth; who will be inheriting the world we leave behind.
Earth Hour is a global environmental movement that got its start in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Since then, it has grown to become the world's largest grassroots movement for the environment, inspiring individuals, communities, businesses and organizations in more than 170 countries and territories to take tangible climate action for over a decade. The movement recognizes the role of individuals in positively influencing climate change and harnesses the collective power of its millions of supporters to shine a light on climate action.

"We are pleased to lend our support to Earth Hour this year and emphasize the importance of conserving our energy resources. This symbolic event allows hundreds of millions of people across the globe to participate in advocating for a change we should all support. Our city prides itself on being environmentally friendly, and this is one more way we can encourage our residents and businesses to care for our planet," said Mayor Jim Brainard.
