Where: Carmel Clay Veterans Memorial Plaza located near the SW corner of 3rd Avenue SW and City Center Drive in City Center (Rain location: The Tarkington Theater at The Center for The Performing Arts, 3 Center Green, Carmel)
Who: The ceremony includes remarks by Carmel Mayor James Brainard, and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Clay Township Trustee, Doug Callahan.
The keynote speaker will be Colonel Cynthia Ernst of United States Army Reserve (Retired), most recently of Carmel, Indiana. Colonel Ernst has served in a variety of roles in Civil Affairs since 1985 but has also mobilized and deployed four times in a Civil Affairs capacity with the 82nd Airborne during Desert Shield/Desert Storm in Iraq; the 1st Armored Division during Joint Endeavor in Bosnia; 1st Marine Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq; and the 101st Airborne during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
Members of the local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) posts will participate in a flag raising ceremony and all attending will have the opportunity to place flowers at the Memorial to commemorate all military veterans. A variety of Patriotic music at the ceremony will be provided by: Carmel Elementary music teacher Cynthia Ensign Baney, Erica Clark Thompson, followed by a 21 Gun Salute and Taps.
Background: Memorial Day is a special day when we honor all those brave military personnel who have served and sacrificed and thank them for all they have given us.
