An e-mail, which was forwarded today by a local resident to the Police Department, uses what appears to be an e-mail address from a legitimate city source. The e-mail is personally addressed to the recipient, contains “details of the violation” and includes a breakdown of costs for the violation, court fees and the total cost of the ticket. The email also includes a sentence of a right to appeal the citation; and attachments to open in order to respond or appeal.
An investigation is underway to determine the source of the scam. If you receive such an e-mail, please report it to the Carmel Police Department by calling 317-571-2500 or 571-2580.
